Sometimes you might hear or see a word that you know but might not understand. 

บางทีคุณอาจจะได้ยินหรือเห็นบางคำที่คุณรู้จักแต่ไม่เข้าใจเนื่องจากบริบทของมัน

This week I’m gonna share some common phrasal verbs that will help you understand colloquial English. 

อาทิตย์นี้ผมอยากจะแบ่งปันกริยาวลีบางคำที่ใช้กันบ่อยและสามารถช่วยให้เข้าใจภาษาพูดของภาษาอังกฤษได้

to bring up = to mention 

เอ่ยถึง

เช่น Please don’t bring that up again. It stresses me out. 

กรุณาอย่าพูดถึงเรื่องนั้นอีก มันทำให้ฉันเครียด

My wife always brings up mistakes I made in the past.

ภรรยาของผมมักพูดถึงความผิดของผมในอดีต

Call off = cancel 

ยกเลิก

เช่น I need to call off this afternoon’s meeting, because I’m feeling under the weather.

ผมต้องขอยกเลิกประชุมตอนบ่ายนี้ เพราะว่ารู้สึกป่วย

Make up = to invent a story or a lie 

กุเรื่องขึ้นมา

เช่น You don't have to make up stories. I know what really happened!

คุณไม่ต้องกุเรื่องขึ้นมาเพราะฉันรู้แล้วว่าจริง ๆ แล้วเกิดอะไรขึ้น

John made up an excuse, because the truth was too embarrassing. 

จอห์นกุคำแค่ตัวขึ้นมา เพราะความจริงมันน่าอายมาก

Drop by = to visit unexpectedly or casually. 

แวะ

เช่น I’ll drop by your place on my way home from work. 

ฉันจะแวะไปหาคุณที่บ้านหลังจากเลิกงาน

My mother-in-law always drops by uninvited.

แม่สามีของฉันมักแวะเข้ามาโดยไม่ได้รับเชิญ

Figure out = to solve or understand something. 

ปะติดปะต่อ ทำความเข้าใจ

เช่น I finally figured out how to solve this problem!

ในที่สุดก็สามารถปะติดปะต่อวิธีการแก้ไขปัญหานี้ได้

I can’t figure out what the problem is.

ฉันไม่สามารถปะติดปะต่อได้ว่าปัญหาคืออะไร

Get over = to recover from sickness or disappointment. 

ฟื้นจากความป่วย ทำใจจากเรื่องผิดหวังได้แล้ว

เช่น I got over the flu, but I still can't get over my ex! 

ฉันสามารถฟื้นไข้ได้แล้ว แต่ว่ายังไม่สามารถทำใจเรื่องแฟนเก่าได้

Run into = to see or meet somebody coincidentally. 

เจอโดยบังเอิญ

เช่น I ran into my ex at the mall yesterday. She had a new boyfriend!

ฉันเจอแฟนเก่าโดยบังเอิญที่ห้างสรรพสินค้า มากับแฟนใหม่ด้วย
